Internet Dating: Dirty & Noughty
In the decade called the “Noughties”, I was in my “Dirty Thirties”. Back then, nobody I knew used Internet Dating. It was all so new!
When a friend who was happily married suggested I give it a try, I felt a little embarrassed. Not because she was married and I was single, but I wondered if it meant I was desperate – and to be honest, I did feel desperate – I needed a different way of meeting men that didn’t involve a pub and a choice of piss heads! Give it a go, I did! Quite a few times! In fact, I have been termed “a serial dater” and a “serial monogamist” as I have truly given it a go!
Those who haven’t given Internet Dating a go, often make the same comment, “Aren’t there just freaks on the internet?” To which those of us who have or do use Internet Dating reply, “Ah thanks – I am using internet dating!” (Pause for a note – yes I know that all who know me would say “yes that’s my point!” – Ha ha Funny – You assholes!) …. moving along ….
The answer is Yes, of course there are freaks everywhere and Yes, there are people just looking for sex on the net but Yes, there are also legitimate people who just want to find love without the alcohol! I’ve met some freaks, a few fuckwits, a handful of romantic though braindeads, many have been sweet yet over-sensitive, others were passionate however agro, there are men who aren’t over their divorces, there are others who don’t understand love and are so desperate they will love anyone and the great thing for my friends is that they all make for excellent dinner conversations!
I needed a break!
After meeting and dating a few the old fashioned way, I found that although the initial contact was very different – one cannot deny the importance of initial face to face contact – the ending has little reflection on the beginning! As the old method of “girl meets boy while out” wasn’t producing the best results either, in my Naughty Forties I decided to give Internet Dating another shot as a woman in her early 20s recommended I give it another go.
Hold on a second! She was young – why had she turned to the net?
I found after talking to many women, that not only is everyone now searching the web for love and sex, but even the younger ones are using the statement once reserve for us older yet young at heart girls – “I’m tired of going out and being approached by drunk sleazy men!”
To my surprise, in the decade termed “the teenies” and exactly a decade later, I rejoined a much larger internet dating world …
Yes, there are Freaks out there!
Yes, you can find Love in the World Wide Web of Dating!
Yes, I know many who have found love on the net!
And Yes, so have I!
And Of course, I have so many, many more stories to share!
