Skin Colour Confidence

Years ago, while sitting in a Greek Taverna with friends, I made a comment about something a “white person” had said to me. When one of my friends said, “But you’re white!” I replied, “I’m not white, I’m olive!” You see, although I love all colours of the rainbow, I believe that olive skin should be recognised as a skin colour as well as white, black, yellow and red.

A huge portion of Earth’s population have olive skin. I am proudly one of them. From my many years of schoolyard bullying in my childhood for my skin colour and heritage, I believe I have earned the right to embrace it openly and proudly.

What a diverse world we live in. We often call it a “small world” but it actually is huge and diverse. So many different countries, different languages, different eye shapes and different skin colours. Another thing that is hugely different is our tastes. , One person’s hell is another person’s heaven … While one will be completely racist against someone, another will love the same person with passion and enthusiasm. It’s crazy when you think that the colour of someone’s skin can alter how you feel about them.

At the end of the day, we all have skin and we all have a heart … The moral of this story is to use your heart and love all skin colours … and wear yours with pride!
